Cottagers' Position
The cottagers built or bought the cottages and had always been given to understand that they owned them and would have the right to remove  them if leasing, at some point, ended. The cottagers believe that they continue to have an interest in the cottages and that they  should be compensated by Indian and Northern Affairs Canada if the Federal Government wants to take ownership of the cottages. Since Indian Affairs has not done that and since the cottagers continue to have an interest in the cottages, the cottages can't be used while they are still in dispute, unless all the parties agree.

Cottagers remain willing and anxious to discuss potential resolutions with the other parties. They are not in a position to release all of their claims to the cottages until a resolution is reached.
